CCMAT-Introduction

We believe the Mat work is the basis of the traditional Pilates Method. It is the most accessible to all students.

This program teaches the historic order, contemporary movements, as well as pre-Pilates and post-Pilates movements that will prepare and condition your body to work on the floor using only your own body weight as resistance.

Mat develops fundamental movement skills – The Mat teaches core activation, breathing, alignment, control and body awareness that form the foundation of all Pilates apparatus work.
Students learn to move without mechanical assistance – Before using springs and moving equipment, exercisers must demonstrate strength, stability and control using only their body weight.
Teachers master Pilates principles first – Understanding centering, concentration, control, precision, breathing and flow on the Mat enables teachers to teach apparatus exercises more effectively and safely.
Mat training improves exercise analysis and correction – Teachers and students learn to identify postural deviations, movement compensations and muscle imbalances before progressing to more complex equipment.
Mat creates a safer progression to apparatus – Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Barrel exercises are easier to learn and carry a lower injury risk when built upon a solid Mat Pilates foundation.
